An automated system, often called a bot, is connected to your account on a platform through an access key. It receives prices, checks whether its rules are met and, when they are, sends the order. The rules can be simple, such as buying when the price crosses a threshold, or very complex.
It cannot know where the price will go, and it cannot turn a losing strategy into a winning one. If the rules lose, an automated system loses with more discipline and faster. Be wary of anyone selling a bot with promises of fixed returns or very high win rates: that is exactly the kind of promise no one can keep.
